March 1, 2008 Is Dis a System?

March 1, 2008

I’ve been thinking of my coaching, and the system I was taught and what others think a coaching system is.  It seems to me that what people want is pre-printed forms so you can establish a pattern that facilitates coaching.  Now I confess, I’m a cynic.  I think that’s really designed to impress potential clients that you know what you’re doing, so that you establish credibility.  And also so that you can have multiple coaches, each of whom has your stamp on their coaching.  I approve of that last purpose; there’s a value to uniformity… Creates branding.

In fact, I use a couple of forms and I like them.  Generally, people coach themselves even when they don’t realize it.  So when I ask, “How do you sabotage yourself?”  The answer points to a background conversation that’s present in making your goals.  And I’m always interested in the client’s attitudes about spiritual fulfillment, social justice and environmental sustainability.

February 26,2008 Moving Ahead

February 26, 2008

There’a a certain way of moving ahead…We all do it differently – like a jet, like a freight, like a crab.  I’m studying different ways to move myself ahead.  I’m not only looking at my primary areas, as a coach and as an author.  I’m also learning how to think in terms of joint ventures and at different forms of promotion, like being on the (possibly internet) radio.

I’m also looking for people who would be happy to sell my books for a good piece of the action.  Everything I do is consistent with my stand for an environmentally sustainable, socially just and spiritually fulfilling world.

January 22, 2008 Rhythym

January 22, 2008

There’s an uncanny rhythym to each life, even though every day is different and does not resonate with continuity – particularly when you’re ‘in charge.’  Similar things happen – in different order, with little or no consequence – even ignoring stuff like brushing your teeth.

I know I’m the same as you, but in different ways — I take care of my grandson while my granddaughter goes to sachool.  Then I go to the gym and run one or two errands.  I catch up on my email (I only get about 100/day) and I write this.  That still leaves a good chunk of day for meditation, work and other play.

When I think of it all as rhythymic, the context changes – I can listen for the melodies, hear the poetry, wonder where it’s going.

I captureand deepen what’s in line with my commitment to spiritual fulfillment, social justice and environmental sustainability.

I am offering a new, free, 6-session teleseminar -Successful Relationships -

December 24, 2007 Twas the Day before the night before

December 24, 2007

But it’s a Monday! Hey – the kids are home; the wife’s not working.  We already started, didn’t we?  Except for buying the food and the last minute items – it’s nice to feel average.

I did go to the gym this morning, but it was closed.  I’ll count going anyhow. Wriring that made me notice something – I was willing to count a good reason for not winning as if it were a win – not exercising + a good reason was the same as exercising.  I’ll have to inform my body to go along with that kind of thinking.  But it’s something that most of us do — not showing up plus a good reason is the same as showing up…

Not accepting a request + a good reason is the same as saying yes.  Hmmm.  How do you use that?

December 14, 2007 Year in Review

December 15, 2007

I don’t know if I’ll review anything – January was a longgg time ago, but it’s the kind o0f title that gets people to read it so…

I love the field of democrat contenders, have no idea who I’ll choose, and will be happy with whoever wins – as long as Al Gore is on his/her Kitchen Cabinet.  And I love the Republican field also; makes me chuckle.

I see too few movies – I watch last year’s, but that’s also the clothing styles I like.

I don’t feel disconnected from any tv shows – not sad to see any go — would love to see more go.  I love Monk, despite its embarrassing predictability (cannot understand how the stooge cop ever even made it on the force.) Enjoy the Closer (and did not like it’s new season premier – dishonorable, vicious and psychological torture – unbefitting of her –love her father, missed him since Northern Exposure); enjoy Heroes, but don’t understand why.  I liked LIfe, but it’s beginning to play out.  I even enjoy Daily Show re-runs (since the writer’s strike) ditto Colbert, but I hate the audience clamor.

For me this was the year of the ‘Mindset and Business Gurus’ – Jay Abraham (my mentor), Jack Canfield, Bill Harris, Chet Holmes, Alex Mondrossian (all co-mentors).. all wonderful.

One result is that I’ve shifted my thinking about my business. I deeply believe that giving away what people want, I will win trust and so business.  I give away a free 6-session seminar.

Got a new grandson, a new son-in-law, a newly pregnant daughter, another seriously getting her life moving forward.  My dog is 17 1/2 (we think that it’s a lot more in dog years, she knows she’s a teenager, despite her several seizures).  And my cat is 15 and shows NO signs of age, ditto my wife and me…well me, some – I just got back from the gym and I’m a little tired.

I’ve gone through a minimum number of tagedies from people I love, though even only 1 is enough of a tragedy – in this case, my best friend’s son, who I knew his whole life; my doctor (health guru) for 40+ years, who fortunately bequeathed his talent and soul to one of his sons.

This year I exposed myself as a writer – 4 blogs, 2 weekly website essays, a novel entered into Amazon’s contest, and a number of my books for sale on my website.

And I joined two mastermind groups

December 4, 2007 The Magnificent 7

December 5, 2007

I belong to two mastermind groups – If you don’t know what that is, you should find out — See Canfields The Success Principles or Joe Vitale’s Speak and Grow Rich.  They make sense.  When I meet with them, I feel  that I’m meeting with invisible parts of my brain, parts that I love and respect and that think for me in ways that I normally don’t.

Anyhow, one of them has seven membors – hence my title.  I’m inquiring into what I’m doing that causes my requests be ineffective.  It is the great challenge, because without feedback, why am I doing this, for whom am I doing it?  I think I’m writing about creating – am I writing for myself?

This is what I’ve been saying:Look at my website and look at 21 Awesome Results (Click on michaellipp.com/contributioncoaching/services – This is a brand new approach to giving you the benefits of group coaching.  Whether you say yes or no, I’d appreciate your feedback.

November 29, 2007 The Best Use of Time

November 29, 2007

Last night my seminar was on making the best use of your time – what people call time management  and others call productivity management.  Seminars are driven by the questions raised by the participants.  I expected that peop0le would want to understand what system they could use  and what tips I could provide (like reading emails only once or twice a day).  But the key questions were about dealing with wanting to avoid things and, of course, dealing with procrastination.

These subjects defeat systemetizing – In fact, they demonstrate that “another system just doesn’t work…”  My suggestion for the procrastinator is that she find an accountability partner – someone to have a 5 minute phone conversation every day: 2 minutes each: “Here’s what I will accomplish today; 30 seconds each:  I did what I said I’d do.  There’s no judgement, just someone who will hold your result.

Avoidance is more difficult – probably very individualized, what are you avoiding? In this case, it was learning technical material.  Seems to me that people avoid that because they’re convinced they can’t do it and have a history that validates that.  So what’s needed is to learn that they can learn.  We all can, though are convinced we can’t by school experiences – by the very place that should teach them they can!!!

I’m learning to broaden the scope of my teleseminars.  The next free 6-session seminar nicely starts the new year on January 7th.  Sign up on my website (www.michaellipp.com)

November 28, 2007 Practicing Practices

November 28, 2007

This morning I drove Diamond to school…a slight dislocation.  Over this year I’ve developed a number of daily practices.  They’re not quite habits (like I don’t think of brushing my teeth as a daily practice – I just do it)  Here they are:

I read a text to meditate on (I’m reading John Randolph Price’s Rhe Abundance Book, which I see as a beautiful way of thinking about The Law of Attraction. There’s always a phrase that catches me – Today’s is that my consciousness of the  Spirit within me… is the Divine power to restore the years the locusts have eaten– I love that.

Then I meditate for 15 minutes. After breakfast (just fruit) I go to the gym, except weekends. Then I log on, check my calendar, check my email – usually 50 or so and write this.  I speak my affirmations and set out my day’s plans.

At night, before I shut down, I fill my calendar with anything from my day that’s not there & quickly check tomorrow.  I again say my affirmations – I think of them as bringing the future present. Then I consciously express my gratitude for my life and go to sleep.

The one practice I’m working on is to include an hour of study each day – can’t figure out how to make that decision real and will today (now that I’m conscious of it) going to make it a goal and corresponding affirmation.  I am repeating yesterday’s invitation:

November 27, 2007 Compunding Errors and Compounding Wins

November 27, 2007

Two days ago I I lost a day and I wrote about it yesterday…But I dated it the day after my lost day —compunding my blunder..Finally got it right today. Interesting how I did that and I suspect that we often do that; make a mistake when correcting another.. I noticed years ago that we most often wipe out our hard drive when backing it up.

November 15, 2007 Why Figure It Out?

November 15, 2007

Last night I started my third iteration of The Success Principles teleseminar.  One reason I love doing this is that I listen to myself and the participants.  I learn new things every time.

We were talking about goals.  And I realize that most of us are nuts about goals -  But that’s because our learning experiences about them come from New Years resolutions — most of them gone by March or earlier — and work.  At work, goals are not goals, they are political projections – You have to make them or explain not making them – and you’re constrained from really going for them.

But what I said was a few things –Before you even invent any goals, imagine what your life would be like if you achieved them.  Now imagine that you could invent your own future… and living into your goals is what allows you to build that future.  Of course I said this more fully and more emotionally.

Seeing your future; imagining or visualizing your future is far more useful than trying to figure out how.  In a race, “what” beats “how” every time.

Incidentlly, I’m going to continue this on my contribution coaching blog. (www.michaellipp.wordpress.com)
